On/Off MFD

My GTI MFD is giving me concern. Sometimes it takes an eternity to switch on. Today it started dropping off while driving. I have had it replaced before delivery of the car. Before I return it to the service dealer with a frown on my face is ther anything I can do or check before I lose my car to those nasty, nasty VW techs???

Might just be a lose wire/connector behind the screen, regardless, best thing to do is take it back and let them sort it, just make sure they put your dash back together properly if they have to go that far. I always end up with extra screws when taking any dash apart/putting it back together, make sure they dont do that to yours!

Edit...just reread your post...what do you mean by "I have had it replaced before delivery of the car."?

The problem was there when I took the car for a test drive. The dealer was upfront with me and said that it needed to be rectified before the car was given to me. They changed a module of some sort before delivery and all was well for 3000kms, and now this

Mate, I think you bought the one that I test drove at Glennie. It was really annoying how it flashed on and off and it really put me off when I was driving it. I was told that someone before me had broken it and that it'd be a warranty repair if I bought it.

Know I know exactly what you're talking about and by the sounds of it... the problem isn't solved.

Bugger, thats a bit of a worry that they said they fixed it and now its back, sounds like 1 of 2 things happened.

1. They didnt fix it. Just said they did. (Don't know why they do these things!! Have had this happen to me a few times, although only once with VW)
2. They dont actually know what the problem is and replaced the wrong component.

Either way, be a prick about it if you have to be, I hate going there but seems its the only way to get things done sometimes. Best of luck!

Dealers are so full of it! Do they think its the first time people have seen a car or something?!

Now, the latest on my Bollywood saga...(Long movie, bits of everything, bad acting, lots of music, etc...)
I got fed up of the nightclub flashing in my dash, so I took it back to the dealer, who assessed it pretty quickly. Basically, the module was ok, but the screen was kaput, so I needed a new dash cluster. Ok, says I, let's get a new one in.
Coupla days later, got the car in and the cluster was replaced (got a black loaner 2.0FSI in return). Unfortunately, the wife went to pick the car up (cue suspenseful music). When I returned from work, she knew all was not well, as my face had turned quite pale (not easy for an Indian, I can tell you!). The wrong MFD was in my car! I had a bog standard Golf MFD in place. You see, I have a Navigation system whose activation can have some control from the steering wheel. In addition, I couldn't activate the audio system, or any other function with respect to headlight activation on entering/leaving the car etc. As you can guess I was not happy...
Anyway, I was there 7.30AM next day. Poor Kieran, the young chap who got me (and a kid who I was prefect over back in our school days!) copped the "Horatio Caine, CSI Miami, quiet menace" spray from the Burtybear. Within 5 minutes, a new part was ordered from Singapore.
Part arrived 5 days later, fitted today, all ok so far. Let's hope, for the Technicians' sake, it doesn't happen again!

I'm struggling to understand how someone could **** that up.. ?

They have to pull the bloody thing out to put the new one in - Surely someone would have noticed they were different.
