  • Changing Fog Light Grille on Jettas

Has anyone changed their Fog Light Grille on their Jettas yet to the GTI?

Haven't found anyone that has done this mod.

Ive found that the GTI Honeycomb open grille's dont fit the Jetta. The Chrome part of the front grille doesnt suit the GOLF GTI grille.

I'm a little confused by what you are trying to do.

From looking at the Jetta brochure The Jetta with the factory fitted
fog lights has a slightly different chrome cap over the top of the
plastic fog light insert. The ones you have circled.
The Jetta with out the fog lights has a small top chrome piece which is
    part of the plastic insert.
So do you have a jetta currently with or with out fog lights??
If you don't have fog lights and you are trying to add GTI fogs then you may have a problem. I don't know if they would make a the separate chrome
piece to fit a GTI as they just have the insert you have also shown.

May be a member can tell us whether the front bumper around the the
fog lights on the GTI is the same as the Jetta.

Ive pulled apart the front chrome and its connected to the grille.

I have to basically make it custom to fit.

Which is going to be a fiddly job.

any ideas what will cut the plastic?

im looking at buying a hand held bansaw.

So do you currently have the jetta without the factory fitted fog lights??

Just looking at the brochure it looks like a standard jetta without fog lights
would except the gti fogs .

I think you would only have the problem with a factory fitted jetta as they
have the larger chrome join as in your pic.

Anyway show us some pics if you get the job done. Good luck.

Just doing a bit of a search and came across a jetta without the fog lights
and it does seem to have the separate chrome piece. so maybe the
vw brochure is of an overseas model which has the small chrome combined
          to the plastic insert.
          So good luck.

the australian version of the jetta has the chrome piece connected to the lower grill, it always comes across to the centre of the bumper so when you remove it theres like a 2 inch gap. i have the fog lights.

the chrome piece goes across the lower grill and touches the centre of the bumper bar. the bumper is completely different to the USA versions where the chrome piece can come off and you can just switch it to a open grille GTI one.

the aussie ones you cant. you fit in that spot and then theres a big gap on the top because its for that chrome piece. stupid how the bumper is different. we get the european versions of the jetta.

the GTI open grille isnt a straight fit. its too short for the area.
so basically it looks like i have to cut the open gti grille, connect it to the chrome piece, and then put it altogether so it looks factory. theres no other part to replace the chrome piece unless you paint it black which is another option.

just need to find something to cut plastic and a good glue.

            any ideas?

Yeah definitely need the honey comb inserts to match your grill.

What are your plans for the number plate.
I noticed you just have it temporally on the lower grill.
This is what I have thought about doing to my jetta when it finally arrives.
I want the chrome to be left uncovered and have the number plate mounted
to the bottom part of the bumper. similar to the new Peugeot 207
What does the front of yours look like with the plate at the bottom.

                      G'day,

I was browsing around on carsales and came across this image which I thought was weird. It's got it's lower grill bits removed and the silvers strips as well. Dunno why how it would help, but I thought of this thread as soon as I saw it, so I'll post it up.

i drove without front plates for about two weeks and then got worried about being pulled over all the time so i hooked it up to the lower grille.

i like it having them there.

Seems to balance the look better from your pic.

I was thinking of NSW slim line plate which is much smaller for the front
but might not look as good as yours.

Check out the link below for plate brackets I found for lotus elise number plates.
Was thinking about them but would make them extrude further
from the front where as yours looks good being res est into the grill.
