  • Drove new GT Sport TSI

Had my second MK5 experience yesterday. The first being in a DSG GTI (was giving a mate stick for buying an auto... I very quickly shutup after driving it )

The second was a new GT Sport with the 1.4 TSI motor. Holy cow!! I was soooo impressed! So smooth, no lag and the engineering of the change between supercharger and turbo was unbelievable! Despite trying hard to detect the change at 3500rpm (which is when the clutch on the supercharger supposedly engages) I couldn't feel it.

I loved the fact that at the lights, I had a knob in a Commonwhore beside me and after turning off ESP etc being able to launch away with a peel of tyre squeel and leave him sitting there wondering what just happened!

Only problem for me now is that I have a third car to decide between for the next replacement... GT, GTi or R32

I also found the TSI a really good drive. We took it for a spin in the back roads of Tweed Heads and also managed to find some idiot honda driver to make fun of.

The TSI has an electromagnetic clutch for the supercharger but it only engages when the turbocharger has picked up enough boost to overcome the supercharger power...if that makes sense. So for a few hundred revs they are running simultaneously.

I think that the difference in performance of the GT and the GTi are minimal, not sure if the differences in options/spec for the $5k difference is notable, given they both come with the same options.

Now the GTi to the R32 is not that big of a jump either in performance, however having bought an R32 I definitely would have to state that its a personal preference for the overall package.

Me like the growl of the V6 so ---> R32

Buying a car most of the time is governed by the heart and not the head, which is why a test drive is always the best way to decide. I reckon if it was based on a logical decision I may have opted for the GT simply on the value it offers for the performance.

And what about 4Motion on R32? Doesn't allow it to you to drive faster in wet condition and better cornering not tallking about take offs when the road is wet?
I absolutally enjoy driving my 4motion Transporter when is raining I recon it drives better in wet than on dry road especially when cornering.
