Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Anyone in Perth with a APR RSC exhaust?

I'm looking at getting this exhaust but would really like to hear one in the flesh before taking the plunge.
Was hoping there might be someone in Perth who has one that would be kind enough to let me hear it,

    Cheers.

They aren't quiet, I'll tell you that....

And with an intake/stage 3, they sound like they belong off road...

In other words, nice. But don't expect the car to sound refined!

Think barrrr - CRACK - barrr - CRACK - barrr - CRACK with the sound of a huge volume of air being sucked in the front end and you're on the right page...

I've ordered it now and can't wait to get it on. Not interested in a refined sound at all. If it sounds anything like you've described I'll be a happy man!

I reckon you will, I think it's fantastic. If you drive sedately you won't be too annoyed - but when you put the boot in, it'll make a noise that you'll love.

It's not over the top, but it's certainly very aggressive. The intake on the Stage 3 however, I cannot say the same thing for. It's way over the top for the street and makes it sound like it belongs offroad.

My goal was to get the max power/driveability out of the car with the sound as a secondary requirement. The sound of the RSC was a happy addition to the primary reason I got it (power), unfortunately the intake wasn't.. Both however, were needed for the primary goal of max HP.

I'd be surprised if you don't like it though. Get ready to laugh your head off the first time you hear it change gears under WOT (you have a DSG right?). I've had mine for 2 years, and I still laugh on the inside everytime I hear it.

Oh and you'll have a fair bit of noise out the back end on idle on cold starts. Once the flappers open on the engine it will quiet down (you'll notice this after about 1 min of cold idle). Nothing to worry about.

Keep a good eye on your rear O2 sensor as well. Make sure it's clear when you pull out the old exhaust. I had one fail, pain in the backside it was.
