Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Finally!!!
After a few hickups and another delay I finally picked up my new TR 5Door DSG. Have not really given it any real testout yet but have racked up 600Km since yesterday.
Did the Canberra - Cooma - Adaminiby - Kiandra - Tumut - Gundigai - Yass - Canberra loop on my first day. Should have it completely run in by the end of the long weekend. LOL
The run down the mountain from Kiandra to Talbingo was awesome!!
I was going to attach a picture but the size limitation of of attachements on this forum makes that impossible, or just a waste of time

yeah ull need to upload it elsewhere and just link it if its a bit pic

Congrats! 600kms in one day is a bit! ive had mine since wed last week and only managed to rack up 350kms.

Did your dealer mention anything about running in? Mine just said "I dont *think* you need to run it in at all"
After reading a bit about it i kinda decided to keep the revs down for the first 1500kms but vary the engine load and not just do all the kms on the fwy.

At 1500kms ill do an oil/filter change as the dealer doesnt wanna see me until 15000kms!

The dealer said that the factory is supposed to run them in at the factory, probably on a dyno, and that running in was not necessary.
I have decided that I should keep the revs down, the same as you.
I asked about the oil change as well, and they said that they do a 7500km check over for any problems but that oil was not replace until a later service.
I think that I too will replace the oil at 1500km.
I have crept up to 4k a few times but mostly kept it below 3k.
It is just so hard to keep it that low as it just seems to love to rev, especially when you give it a tiny nudge comming out of a nice turn.
I have only done that since my fist run so I think that 4k would be ok now.
A good think that the footy finals were on this weekend or else I would have had the 1500km before the end of the weekend.

Only running in precaution necessary is to not use the cruise control for the first 1000kms or so.
Pretty sure it's in the handbook.

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your GTIs as I get out of mine!
