    Its all about not letting the wipers stay in one spot forever. That way they don't stick or lose shape.... at least thats what the manual sort of says.

      My Wipers are random Every time I go through a toll pass or go past a police car, ambulance or fire truck they go off. Electrical charge I assume, is amusing though.

        That and the wiper shift.... One promotes wear the other counteracts it
        From the brochure "Volkswagen’s engineers have long understood that when it comes to quality and innovation, little things make a big difference. So, for example, the Golf features windscreen wipers that return to an alternate ‘park’ position in order to minimise wear."

          Bazzamon ....do you have auto sensing wipers? I do and they "move" when I start up and turn off. Haven't tried having them wiping when I switch off tho to see if they go back the "park" mode.

            Based on what I see mine do, the following;

            When the car starts, they move up slightly.
            Once the car is moving and there is no rain for sensor, or I have them off they drop back behind bonnet.
            If I start to use them they return to a higher point on the screen until the time I turn them off and the drop back again.

            I think that they may do this to decrease drag and wind deflection off the wipers, which also promotes wear of blades and screen - and increases the drag coefficient.
