  • Mechanical differences between Jetta TFSI & Golf GTI

I'm curious as to what the mechanical differences between the Jetta TFSI and GTI are. Jetta's got the trunk, but the TFSI's been described as the GTI with a trunk, how true is that statement?

The interior differences are plain to the eye, but what about what's under the bonnet and hidden away from view?

The engine is the same... I think..what about the rest?

    - Exhaust
    - Suspension (might not be the same)
    - Brakes
    - Transmission

B.T.W. is there a difference is the interior space of a Jetta and Golf?
I've got a Jetta coming in a few weeks, but I'm still a newbie at vdubs.

Exhaust wise - It has another muffler under the back seat to quiten it down a bit more as it is aimed for a more "luxury" market... If you listen to stocko gti or new audi TT it has a more deeper (better) sounding note...

I had a look at the vw homepage and compared the specs sheet on the jetta and golf.

It seems the Jetta TFSI has 10 speakers but misses out on the 8-channel 250w amp which is in the golf gti, can someone confirm/deny this?

The wheelbase of the 2 cars are identical (no big suprise I guess), so does that mean they would have the same amount of internal passenger space? as in leg room esp in the rear?

I was dead set on the Jetta so I didnt look at the gti too closely when at the dealership.

golf and jetta are built on the same chassis

ones a hatch, ones got a boot

        same leg space, etc.

and i don't think the dsg jetta comes with flappy paddles (atleast the one i looked at didn't)

Cars are built on same platform and with same engine.

Jetta TFSI only available with DSG and DSG in Jetta is not available with paddle shift, GTI has sportier exhaust and sportier suspension package.

You won't be disappointed with the Jetta, it's a great drive, refined but sporty. It is a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing, very capable of giving a nasty surprise to some so called sporty cars.

You will find yourself making excuses to get into it and go for a drive.

Didn't I read that the Jetta TFSI has "Sportline" level suspension, not the GTI suspension? Can't remember.

I wouldn't mind a growlier exhaust note from my TFSI (easily fixed aftermarket anyway if I was so inclined) but other than that, boy it's fun.

Love the fact it looks like just another sedan, you can suprise everyone.

Yep, Jetta TFSI gets Sportline suspension, not GTI... we get proper LED taillights though
