  • HOT AIR flowing from air vent when CLIMATE CONTROL is off

    guys,

i have a MY07 GTI, i've noticed this since the first day of pick up.
Even if i have the climate control switched OFF - there still seems to be lil bit of warm air slowly flowing out from my front air vents. No fan speed but just warm air...

Have any of you noticed this??? I don't know if even if you have climate control off the car is still trying to keep the car at a comfy temp.

I havn't complained to the dealer yet coz it's been cold in Melb and i don't mind it, but, when summer comes - i don't wanna be paying for more petrol then i need to.

    Cheers,
    Larry

I'm not too sure about the petrol statement? Do you mean that because you will be using the air-con in summer you don't want a warm air leaK? or do you think the car is always trying to warm the cabin?

I haven't noticed this problem, but I always have the fan on, even if the automatic climate control is off. I like a bit of air coming through the cabin and not stagnant.

        Do you guys have DSG?

It runs so damn hot that your entire cabin will heat up because of it, it could be something related to that.

          reply, yes i have DSG.

ALso, in relation to petrol, i ment that the car uses more petrol with the heater running when i don't want it to...

it wouldnt use anymore petrol. its probably just air coming through the car's aircon system because of the speed of the car, and because the car is running and hot then the air would heat up as it travels through the vents. if you changed the flow to recycle then i would guess it wouldnt happen.

Had a holden vr with climate control and it would save the last setting
              even when turned off.
So if I had the heat on previously it would send out slight warm air.
On warm days had to turn on air con and change degree setting to say
17 and then when turned off no warm air would come through.
              Hope that makes sense.

My 06 -07 model Jetta has the same problem. Even when turned off the heat still enters the cabin. This does not happen all the time but is intermittant. I have found that by turning the "auto" climate control on and off a couple of times, it stops. I intend to report it on my next service.

Explain the logic? The heater just uses the heat from the engine cooling system. It was going to be exhausted through the radiator anyway.

Yup, I can only imagine that it is air pressure generated through driving at speed, coming through the vents, which would carry some hot air from the engine bay. Is it coming through at idle? maybe it is a side effect of the DSG cooling system.

I have noticed some cars will not fully shut the air flow off even with no fan running, for a reason unknown to me.

The heater would only be a fan running over a heat core, so wouldn't use any significant power (or fuel).

                      Thanks for the replies.

At least i now know that the heater dosn't use up any more petrol.

But, what about Air Con for cold air, does the same apply?

sadly not... aircon uses up quite a bit of fuel, especially at idle. see if it still blows warm air at you if you set it to recycle air instead of outside air

I'm glad I found this thread. I am experiencing the exact same problem with warm air entering the cabin whilst driving with the air-con completely turned off. I also found that toggling the air-con on and off tends to reduce the air flow, but not completely. Haven't thought about hitting the recycle button, will give it a try today. I will find out later, but if you hit the recycle button, does the rest of the air-con come on as well?

let me know if it works id be interested. yes i think you can only switch the recycle on/off with the aircon on if you have the digital climate control but if you just have the regular one that says "climatic" then you can set it to recycle even if the aircon is off.

the same is happening on my car (mk4 R32) and i turn on the aircon for a minute, untill it starts blowing cold air and i turn it off. the air that is coming out of the vents is much cooler and it stays like that. BTW, this only happens if its hot outside. If its cold, the cold air gets in
