  • Mk5 GTi wheel size

Does anyone know what the largest wheel/tyre combination I can fit without clearance problems on a Mk5 GTi ?

    Thanks

I know a couple of people with 235/35/19 inch wheels (I think those are the sizes) , They haven't had any problems with clearance

I suppose it all depends on the roads you are using. I can get my 18s to foul the inner front guard liners on bumpy tight corners while cornering extremely hard.
      Suspension might help this soon!

        I've recently fitted 235/35R19 to my brother's MK5 GTI & fitted H&R spring's.

Exactly the same as what Andrew has said, it rubbed very lightly on the front inner guard liner mount's which have been modded to clear. It would rub on the sharp bump's like road surface changes, little style pot hole's etc. The large bumps it was fine.
        The rear wheel's are fine.

If you get the right offset wheel & go no more than a 20mm drop (from standard GTI suspension)you should be fine.

are you talking width or rim diameter? if you fit 225/35/19, that would be identical width and tyre diameter as the factory, with 2 inch bigger wheels.

          stock tyres are 225/45/17
          which is equivalent to 225/40/18
          and 225/35/19
          and 225/30/20

dont go bigger than 19 though, it'll look stupid

That GTI with the Porsche wheels looks very very nice Where'd you get your wheels from? You'd need adapters to make them fit I presume.

              Hi Jules,

My brother GOLFWORX has been posting on my behalf since i've been in the USA on business.

Those wheels are geniune Porsche Carrera S jobbies which i bought direct form Porsche Melbourne. You don't even want to know the price!! The best thing about these wheels is that there so easy to clean after having BBS RX rims on my last golf for 6 years.

              Wheels are 19 X 8 running Michelin Pilot 235/35/19

The adapters to make them fit are H&R Track adapters which set me back around $700.00 i think.

I'm now working on getting the back lower as the H&R sport springs aren't cutting the mustard. I'm not sure what im doing at this stage but leaning towards some coilovers such as KW'S Varient 3's.

Of course it's not going to work if you use rusty bullets!

If you want those wheels try these guys..

They make replicas of alot of the euro style wheels.

You can actually fit 19"x8.5" with a ET of +48 fitted with 235/35 rubber. You do have to be careful of the rubber you fit as some makes will rub on the struts. The Yoko advans I fitted have no problems at all.

I LOVE THE FAT ASS LOOK FROM THE REAR WITH THE 8.5"
