  • Waiting times

We're almost there but now we just have to consider if we want a brand new 08 built/compliant model set to our desired specs, or see if we can't get the dealership to source one that we may be able to have in the next month or so.

Does anyone have any war stories on waiting times or if you picked up your car off the lot? Seems that down at certain dealerships they use the cars as demo cars.

I would expect that if it was a brand new car that I am getting that it would have less than 50km on it (give or take movement on/off the ship etc.)

    Hi Pharkus,

All be it nearly 12 months ago when my jetta TDi was delivered, I had a wait of 3 1/2 mth.
    Ordered 10th July
    Build Date 22nd August
Arrived melb docks about 16th Oct
Delivery 26th oct with 27 km on the clock.

After 25,000km of fuss free ecominical motoring the wait was well worth it! I guess the wait is associated with colour, options and accessories that you want. I my case there was no bog standard manual wheat beige available, so had to wait.

I hope you don't have to wait too long but imo this late in the year I'd hold off for the 08 build.

    Cheers,
    BeigeJet

almost 4 months to the day.
Im picking up my new 08 GTI tomorrow which had to be built to my spec.
If you speak to the dealers sometimes there are cars already on the boat that may suit your spec depending on what youre after.

even if the odo is below 50kms doesnt mean that it hasnt been reset. I believe they have the ability to do that so long as it hasnt exceeded 200kms or something.

Congrats Pahrus and welcome to the site.

Tim - will we be seeing your new beast on the cruise?

Nah i work saturdays unfortunately so im out for that one.

Just in regards to the whole waiting time thing. If you have a set spec that u want. Ring around a few dealers. Sometimes they have stock or know of stock that is already on the boat. My spec was white gti with leather and xenons. There was one i coulda had within a couple weeks that was already on the boat which had leather and rear parking sensors. I was set on the whole xenon thing though.

My 08 Spec Jetta was a case where the dealer rang around and tracked one down which was already on it's way over from the factory with the specs that I wanted. Luckily it had not been assigned to any buyers; otherwise it would take around 4 months for it to arrive from a fresh factory order.

It was built in week 32 of this year... so that's middle of August. I just got a call from the dealer recently saying that the ship will arrive 24th of October and will be available for pick-up soon after (within 7 days).

So as with some other people mentioned on this thread, it really depends on your luck with the specs and what stock dealers have. Ringing around it the best way if you want a car in your specs a.s.a.p.

            Good luck with your purchase!

My GTI was on the same boat, but I've not been advised of a delivery date. As far as I (and the dealer ) know it's still sitting on the dock in Melbourne waiting to be shipped to Tassie.

                  Thanks guys.

We're just now doing the rounds at the various dealerships to see who has what stock. However, we understand that the wait should be worth it to get an 08 built and compliant vehicle with the new MFD and different wheels.

Also we are aiming for the united grey which I understand there to be few of as it is a new colour.

About the clock being wound back that doesn't sound too good, but I suppose if it's just off the boat with no other driving it would be reasonable to expect it to be low K's when we go to pick it up.

Just about given up on the wheels. Originally planned for some aftermarket OZ's or BBS wheels to compliment the anchors but seems like too much trouble. Just have to arrange for tinting now and we are set to go!!!

Was due to pick mine this Friday.
Just in time for a long weekend. You beauty.
Just got an email from the lease company saying that they have stopped delivery because they have not received any of the signed lease douments.
Sent them to our Salary Sacrifice people over 3 weeks ago.
They say that they have never received them.
Will have to go through the whole process again.
                      5 copies signed and witnessed.
Post overnight to Sydney where salary people can sign for it.
Post overnight to Melbourne where Lease company needs to verify.
Back to Canberra for the Dealer.
Don't think I will make Friday.

                      DAMN I AM CRANKY.

The 08 model no longer comes with the zolders. Don't have a pic handy but they are a new 10 spoke design, much simpler looking.

                            oh so you're getting an r32. thought/assumed it was a GTI...sorry.

would be interested in seeing these new wheels...never really was a fan of the zolders.
