Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 07 MK5 GTI - MFD2 Firmware question

    Gday Guys,
Just got myself a 07 GTI which im loving.

Im hoping to upgrade the firmware on the RN MFD2 which came with my car.
I found a download by using the search - but i dont understand which value determine's the age of the firmware.
The one i downloaded was apparently from 09 - but it looks older to me with the .2004 on the end.

Dont really understand why my 07 would have 05 firmware on it.

Can anyone clear this up for me ?
The 19.08.2004 is off the .iso i downloaded and burnt to CD.

Make sure you have the right version! There's a DVD version of the MFD2 and a CD version... I don't know what you expect to gain by updating the firmware though, bricking the unit is a possibility, so unless you have an actual problem I wouldn't do it!

Compared to the mk6 gti screen - Mine just doesnt cut the mustard...... Asthetically and usability.
I was hoping the Last firmware they made for it would have a cosmetic update.

Nope, not that I know of, the GUI/OS is exactly the same over the whole range of MFD2 devices... If you want to update it you have to get the RNS-510 and go through the hassle of swapping it all out!
