Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Key FOB not working

    Hi,

I recently bought a 2006 GTI. When I bought it both key FOB's were working fine. One of them has stopped working since (red light still flashes but none of the buttons do anything). I have tried the following:

    - Replacing the battery
    - Following the manual to re sync it

Nothing seems to work. I try to re sync it doing this (using only the broken FOB):

    1. Press unlock on the FOB.
    2. Unlock the car using the key manually
    3. turn the car on
    4. turn the car off
    5. try to lock the car with the FOB (unsuccessfully).

Am i doing something wrong? Any hints???

    Cheers,

try this (Use it to program a new key...no reason why the same process couldn't be applied to your dilemma):

To program the remote functions on a (new) key, get in your car with the car off and the driver side window rolled down.

insert the new key into the ignition

insert your vallet key in the driver side door lock (outside the car)

turn the vallet key towards lock and hold it there

while it is held towards lock, press the unlock button on your new remote for
    2 seconds.

    let go

press it again for 2 seconds

let go and you should hear an alarm honk or something like that.
