Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DSG 1st to 2nd Issue

Maybe I could get some opinions on this, when I take off normally from a stop the DSG seems to be ok however if I take off from a stop fairly quick the car seems to hesitate changing from 1st to 2nd and as a result I end up going forward in my seat. It only seems to happen on the 1st to 2nd change and I'm just wondering and hoping if I reset the DSG it might resolve the issue. It's also a bit clunky on the downshifts at low speeds.

If a DSG reset may help is there anyone in the Perth area that wouldn't mind helping me out?

most likely a new gearbox is in order...
I had similar trouble with mine with some other problems thrown in also... they reset the gearbox a few times, changed the mechatronics unit and finally replaced the gearbox...
the new gearbox is much better behaved.

Its worth trying as a new dsg will cost dearly. Depending on where you source it anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000!

For a second hand DSG you'd be looking at $3000 from a wrecker.

Start calling around and getting some prices. You'll be alright.
Get it sorted before it causes you more grief six months down the track.

No point changing something until someone with experience looks at it and gives you professional opinion. They are very expensive even 2nd hand. It agree with some people that a reset may do nothing but it's where you should start. It may take you time and trouble but do basics first if this fails at least your confident on which direction you should take.
