Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

sorry just to add to that, the MFD is just the fullsize display on the dashboard above the fuel and temp gauges? its not the 6.5" colour display cd player is it?

I think you will find its a full size display screen for cd ect and you can also
use it to re program your mirror dips and central locking ect.
I was just wondering if it looks similar to the vw oem sat nat screen.
      Neil.

It's the little screen in the dashboard not the SAT NAV screen.n:

I think the display will look like this:

This image is cropped from the volkswagen website from inside a GT Sport with Sat Nav. From others on the site, this display on the instrument dials will be the same as the ones with Sat Nav.

Hope this is right, cos it'll be nicer than the previous divided in 2 display.

Hope it'll look like that on my Jetta

Had a couple of 08's in last week - yep, they have the full screen highline type instrument cluster (as per above pic!)

one other thing... does this mean that on the non-satnav 08 cars, there will be extra buttons/switches on the indicator and light switches to control the MFD functions?

No extra switches. As I understand it, you use the cruise control stalk and switches to navigate the menu.

I'll post a pic of the MY08 MFD asap.

All you need to use it are the Menu, OK and Up and Down buttons. Menu button switches between Audio, Trip Computer and Convenience settings.

Here's the MFD from my MY08 GTi.

I use the buttons on the steering wheel to access the menu functions. Don't have buttons on the levers.

on a related note, what does the speedo go up to on a gt? i hope it goes to 300 that would be badass
I test drove the GT the other day and the dials are the same as the 2.0 FSI Golf, not the GTi/R32 unfortunately. So the Speedo only goes to 260km/h.

The bonus is that instead of the 'oil temp' guage it's got a little boost guage.

                              Hope this is helpful
