I'm currently looking at a 2006 Golf 2.0L Comfortline, they are asking 16k. It's got 89,000 on the clock and the timing belt has not been changed yet (the seller told me VW suggests changing it at 120k). I'm getting so much conflicting information on when to do the timing belt. Especially as I've been looking at some 04 comfortlines with similar kms and all of them have had it done already. I was of the understanding it was every 60,000 or 4 years.

On this particular model should it have been replaced already or soonish? I don't really fancy buying a car that is going to need some expensive work done to it immediately. Any advice would be appreciated, I'm new to all of this!

The best thing to do is contact your local VW and ask them when its due. With the GTI its every 105k (some debate 120k) or 5yrs.
