  • Upgraded interior, now have leather in my Mkv GTI :)

I have wanted leather in the GTI for a while now and an offer popped up which was too good to refuse. So yesterday the tartan went out and full leather went in, I believe they are out of a 2008 GTI which was written off. It included 4 door cards, center console and obviously front and rear seats. I don't care what people say about tradition, the leather is much nicer, really compliments the GTI's interior and steps the car up a notch in terms of class and quality.

Huge shout out to Oli, gave me an awesome deal on the seats and did a awesome job of installing them.

Anyone thinking of doing the conversion go for it, it wasn't as big of a job as I thought it would be. I actually find it more time consuming and difficult to remove my center console to install my Dension unit then it was to refit all seats and doors.

    Nice...
Mind if I ask whether your seat heaters and electric lumbar are hooked up?
Do you know if that was a big job (thinking no for the lumbar, yes for the heaters)

Due to the tight time we were working on neither are hooked up at the moment, the wiring in the seats is all there though so if I go to an auto electrician they can wire them up for me. I don't think I will bother with the heaters, I don't have the buttons on my a/c panel for them so it will require a fair amount of work and cost for something I don't see huge value in. The lumbar however is less work, from what I have been told its just wiring in 2 new cables, but to my surprise the current lumber setting is ok. Before the seats came out of the donor car they must have been set at a fairly neutral lumber setting which is where I would have it anyway so again I don't know if I will go down that path, maybe later as I'm sure it would help for resale.

The Tartan/ original GTI seats have already been sold, they were traded in on the leather seats. If you sent Oli a message he maybe reselling them, not sure. They are in pretty good condition for the age, just had some slight wear on the drivers side bolster.

I actually don't care too much for the lumbar support but I LOVE my heated seats. Wonder if you change your mind when it hits winter.

Well done! I have often considered this for my Jetta. It's the only option aside from nav/premium audio that is missing from my car. Just everytime I think about it I think of another purpose for my money. But I do really want leather. If the right price came up im sure I'd consider it.

My wife & I both thought the same . But with our first winter in the Golf just gone, I have to say that, rather than a gimmick, heated seats really do make for extra comfort, and they kick in very quickly too - we have a 400m dirt driveway (slow out to the road) but by the time the car hits the bitumen the effects are very noticeable.

Especially nice on cold morning starts...

I wonder if the GTI seats would be a direct fit into the Jetta? if so it would be worth it, as they are a bit more buckety then the stock golf/ jetta seats and are also a bit darker in colour.

Interesting, I am still not sold on the idea of the heated seats. I have had a few cars with leather now and none really have bothered me in the winter, however i recently drove a lexus is250 which had cold air coming out of the seats! that's something I could see value in having over our hot summers.
