Replacement Bulbs

I've read that the bulbs fitted to VW's are 'longlife'. My number plate bulbs are both blown so I would like to replace them with the longlife type again for another 3 years of service. Anyone know the best place to get replacements? Is the local VW dealer the best place?

My local dealer's spare parts department is closed on weekends and I find it difficult to get there during the week, do any auto shops sell the longlife bulbs?

I've found a lot of the auto shops charge a fortune for globes, try:

Car Bulbs, Headlight Bulbs, Xenon Bulbs from Philips and Osram, Philips Xtreme Power, Osram NightBreaker globes - Powerbulbs.

Based in the UK, free and quick delivery.
Not related to your scenario but I recently got a pair of Osram nightbreaker + delivered for under $30 with a spare pair of sidelight bulbs thrown in.
Gotta be happy with that!

Why not get some LED wedge bulbs from ebay?
More light and should last an age.

Mine haven't triggered any warnings.
I believe the standard power useage is too low for the outside bulbs to actually trigger the warning anyway (i.e. the licence plate lights are only 5watts or something)

A blown number plate light will definitely trip the bulb failure warning on the dash as I've had this happen to mine.
Regardless of the wattage, I think you'll find the bulb failure system looks for a certain percentage of the rated wattage for each particular globe.
For the lights that cannot have the bulb warning disabled, you will need load resistors when fitting LED replacements unless the LED globe has a built in load resistor like some of them do now.
