How to launch successfully in my Jetta TFSI

So the run in period is over, and I'm getting a bit more enthusiastic with the Jetta

However, I'll be damned if I can work out how to launch it happily. With TC enabled it kills the fun pretty quick until it gets traction then it rockets away ... should I be experimenting with the TC switched off maybe? Or will that just end in a whole heap of (expensive) tyre smoke?

This is my first "clutchless" hi-po FWD car so I'm struggling a little. In the past I've had manual gearboxes and AWD drivetrains to help me ...

DSG has launch control doesnt it? maybe u should give that a whirl. so long as u dont do it every 2 minutes. cant be good for the gearbox!

whilst car is running, traction off> brake pedal depressed> accelerate and get revs to 3k> let brake off.

this works for me.

had a few stuff up with the DSG getting mixed up( or was that me?)
but definatley have traction off.

I have also heard that BMW tip box has a limit of how many launches you can do, like 30 or something.

don't know about the DSG though. i have only done it about 4-5 times.
don't really need to, unless i'm clowning around!!

Launch control will only work once your "vitals" (the car's at least) have warmed up sufficiently.

If you attempt a "launch" and the rev's don't hold at just over 3k with the clutch disengaged (ie: the car is trying to pull away), then the car is not at it's optimum temperature.

Plus...you'll always find the 2nd launch will be harder than the first.

Word of warning tho: don't attempt at the lights in an impromptu drag race uinless you can pre-empt the light change...there is a moment of "lag" as the box decides what to do...approx.1.5sec

Yeah I was going to start looking at the launch control, but wasn't something I wanted to flog that hard. Might give it a whirl and just see. Thanks for the tip about the lag ... something to keep in mind ...

i found launch control useless at the lights, like mentioned pre empting the lights is a waste of time. Best way to launch is to left foot brake but lightly and be very smooth on the accellerator. Played with both traction on or off and would go with off with small amount of spin. Though my traction never made itself noticed on launch and car would just sit on the edge of spin through first. And if too much spin short shift to second and let the torque do the work.

apparently do the 3k with foot on brake and accelerator and then when you take your foot off the brake, ease off the accelerator to keep traction (this is with tc turned off of course) and then floor it again. takes a bit of practice... just what ive heard.

Can i assume correctly that the Jetta AUD versions are equipped with Launch Control?

the turbo fsi versions do come with launch control (with the dsg automatic box). the tdi and regular fsi versions dont.
