  • Slow down shudder/clunk.... Golf GT Sport DSG

2008 MY08 Golf 2.0L GT Sport DSG (Diesel)

Hey guys, so I have been experiencing something that is hard to explain but I will try to picture it for you, now take note, I just had my mechatronics replaced just under 2 weeks ago, and this did solve a slight jolt in acceleration but not this issue.

    - So I am driving at say 80km/h.
    - I see a red light, or turning red light ahead.
    - I begin to break smoothly towards the light.
    - As I am reaching the light, and I start to break a bit more fiercely to come to a stop.

I feel it slow done, and then these slight clicks/clunks, usually around 3 as it comes to a complete stop, like the gears are changing down but the clunk feels so nasty. (only to me really as the driver).

Now this also has another symptom. Sometimes when coming to this stop, just towards the end it feels like it releases the gear into neutral, and just lets go, so I can feel the squeeze of the breaks, then suddenly it just lets go, and goes forward and I have to apply more break to actually stop.

    Thanks in advance guys.

EDIT: Someone on another forum suggested I may have "either worn engine mounts or subframe bolts".
However I have no idea what this means, how to check, or what to do about it. Nor do I know if this is the problem..

    Hey,

Im having the same problem with mine! its horrible!

I had mine serviced a couple of weeks ago at 60,000km's but nothings changed... it feels as if the cars going to stall but it doesnt and just jolts forward which is dangerous in itself...

Have you had any luck with it?

I had a similar clunk before i had the box replaced it also had to be feathered when taking off from the lights , but since the replacement its as smooth as silk.

Is the car still under factory warranty?
If so get itDiagnosedd at a Vw dealer or a goodindependentt like Camden GTI whoDiagnosedd mine and sent me to Barlo
who ended up replacing the gear box .

This is quite common. I first experienced it with my Ralliart Lancer that had a similar twin clutch gearbox. I asked about it and they said it's normal. My Jetta does it too. My Dads newish Golf TDI also does it. I think it's just the nature of twin clutch direct shift gearboxes.

Our MkVI Golf TDi does not do this - I would get your Jetta and your dad's Golf checked.

Something I'll just have to add to the list for VW to look into on my next service.

Not sure if it's going to be the same for all concerned but i had some dodgy idle issues and rough acceleration/de-acceleration which went away after my PCV valve was replaced and DSG 'reset'.

that was in June last year and all clear to date.

                    worth a shot.

Where did you go to get it all done? was the pricing reasonable?

Shudder as you're coming to a halt, or occasionally on slow take-off is caused by wear in the Mechatronics.

Only certain Mechatronics units are affected by this poblem, within a certain production range of the Mechatronics unit. A replacement Mechatronics unit will fix it.

As for the PCV issue, it appears to be unrelated in this instance, but only common on the 2L TFSI.

mine was fixed under warranty at Bill Buckle in Brookvale but i think i spotted someone paying $200 for the valve replacement. DSG reset should be free.

umai: i booked my car in for service, mentioned an issue i had with rough idle, and shudder under acceleration etc as mentioned in my post above. their diagnostic result was a dodgy PCV valve which was replaced under warranty and a DSG reset. The problem has NOT returned 8 months and approx 35,000kms later.

as i said - it may not be the case with all but it did indeed fix my issue.

certainly a better option (especially out of warranty!) than replacing mechatronics.

Admittedly, I only glossed over most posts, only referring to the original.

As with any internet diagnosis, it's hard to detirmine the cause of a fault, with experiancing it first-hand. Thankfully, those at the coalface in your dealership are on the ball, and have successfully rectified your concerns. Although, DSG 'resets' with the diagnostic equipment are generally considered a no-no.

                              really?

you admit to glossing over posts. internet diagnosis being difficult. suggest the fix my dealer completed was prob correct and that they are on the ball. then suggest the reset is a nono.

i really hope you don't work at a dealer i ever take my car to.
