  • Friction Point on a manual MKV GTI

    Hi,

I am just curious on where the friction point on an MKV GTI (manual of course) is? I am not sure if I am being paranoid or not but lately I have noticed I have to release the clutch all the way out, almost to the point where I feel I dont even need to engage the clutch to take off. I hope my clutch is not on its way out, I have done about 123k and I know clutch wear is subjective to ones driving style but I usually get at least 180-200k out of a clutch.

    Thanks,
    Jesse

Don't take it the wrong way, but don't over-think it. This should be a reflex action by now.

If you are worried if the clutch is on the way out, there is a very simple test.

Put the car in the hghest gear you have. Set the handbrake and then try and drive off (ro not rev the engine too much, just what you would normally do). The engine should stall. If the engine does not stall and you have let the clutch out fully, then the clutch is shot. Trust me, you will lnow if the clutch is shot.

You don't have to do this every day, it is only a way of testing the clutch if in normal operation you are travelling at a steady speed but when you try and accelerate, the engine revs but your road speed does not change.
