Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Surely brakes would be replaced only when needed and this would depend on driving style etc?

Just had 90k service, specifically asked them to check the brake pads, all ok, just needed bleeding and new fluids,i do mainly hwy kms so yes definately driving style related.

When I purchased the car at 90k I asked the previous owner if he had changed the brakes, he was quite confident in saying the brakes had not been changed. I also asked the dealer where he had previously had it serviced who said they had never changed them. I am now at 127k and still haven't replaced the brakes! surely some sort of record for a VAG car.

just dropped off my GT Sport TDI 3.5yrs old for its 60,000km service at a VW service dealer and was quoted $960+$499 (normal 60k service + DSG service)...

sounds a touch on the high side?

That sounds good from a stealership... Mine would have cost $1800 but got it done for $1k...
