  • MKV R32 Owners.. Need Advice

    Hi Gents,

I am currently having a problem with the engine on my R32, where it increases in revs intermittently from 500 to 1,000rpm at idle from time to time for about half a minute when stopped at a set of traffic lights or when idling. I've been told by my local Volkswagen dealership that it maybe the pollution gear sensor kicking in to get rid of unburnt gases.

I'm quite concerned as I strongly believe I fixed it 4 months ago by removing excess water in the battery compartment. However it seems to be occuring in winter. I checked out the battery compartment tonight and there seems to be no water in there. Could It be the battery ground cable?

    Help will be greatly appreciated

Couple of things , cant stress it enough as ive seen it heaps lately, in fact only thursday on a Gti that had just been to the dealer. Intermittent running faults, idle etc. Check and make sure your battery is in tip top condition, these cars are affected greatly with a poor battery, bad gear changes the works. If ok i would be at least scanning the engine, checking live data especially idle control. Could have a Vac leak, although vac leaks normally show up all of the time. But still worth checking. Worst case and is piece of mind have the plenum smoke tested for at least 15 mins with constant smoke. It will find any leak no worries. And lastly a throttle body clean and adapt reset. all of this fails i would have the software reloaded.
Hope that helps you get started

        cheers
