  • GTI MK V brakes on a MK V 2.0 TDI

Hi does anyone know if the GTI MK V rotors and calipers will fit a MK V 2.0 TDI with 16 inch wheels?

    Cheers.

Can't say for sure but I doubt it, get some 17s.

I'm in the middle of this exact swap on my GT, so can give you a front brake dimension, the rears would certainly fit.

Find someone with a GTI and give them some beer to test bolt your wheels on.

I thought the GT already had GTI brakes? I was under the impression the only thing different was the suspension in the GTI was slightly lower and firmer.

Exactly what I heard too - at least I'm under the impression the front brakes are the same ( apart from not being red ) but the rears are definitely different to a GTi- little confused why Greg would be be putting GTi brakes on his GT if this is the case - unless of course he wants the GTi rears.....personally If I was to change the brakes on my GT it would be either an upgrade to R32 specs or some aftermarket Brembo's.

Yeah he's putting GTI rears on. GT uses stock Golf brakes i.e. tiny.

I've done it. It's pretty easy.

Theres some for $1k on vwgolf.

Lads the fronts are indeed the same, I am putting on the much newer MK6 GTI front ones just because my fronts are 3/4 gone, and I could paint the new second set properly off the vehicle a nice wanna-be R32 blue.

The rears are an inbetween size on the GT, and mine are paper thin, JMac has been up me more than once about them. I decided to grab some GTI ones ( thanks to benough ), as I'd prefer to have all the GTI pad and rotor options when these wear out, rather than the limited GT specific options.

Why you'd want even more brakes is beyond me, the stock GT's have one amazingly good stop in them, I've had to use it on a few occasions, and have been astounded that it stopped so quickly! For the track sure....but that's a rare thing for most people!

Honesty? Wank factor. I just love the look of a big set of calipers and rotors filling up the wheels, I'm certainly not complaining about the stopping power of the stock GT brakes.

                        Hi Greg,

I erroneosly bought a set of Hawks GTI pads thinking they all fitted. Ive just been quoted $160 here in Aus for the correct rear GT pads, are you interested in the new GTI rears i have ? Or anyone else?

                          Should be fine.

Skoda Octavia has the same setup & few of people on Briskoda have done the upgrade using 16"s.

The calipers & pads are the same, you just need the bigger discs & the GTI carriers.
