Clunk during acceleration

Hi guys, I know I bring up more questions than answers on these forums, but I've just made a worrisome discovery in my 2.0 fsi. I noticed that when I accelerate, that there is a "mechanical clunk". It also clunks when I ease of the throttle. This is only noticeable at slow speeds though. Other than that there is no problem during further acceleration, just the initial movement.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem or know what this could potentially be?

I've read up a bit and found that it could be the engine mounts/bushings/driveshaft....

It could be broken subframe bolts.

Ive sent Barloworld an email requesting these new parts but I also checked out the video in the link to ecstuning in your link and the noise in that video seem to be more of a 'click' then a clunk. The clunk I have is much more noticable and almost shudders the cabin when it happens. Passengers wont notice, but because my foot is on the pedal, it is much more noticeable. Especially in stop-start traffic, when theres 1 clunk for taking off and 1 for slowing down.

Could also be worn engine mounts which would explain the reason why you only notice it on take off and slow down.

thanks for your suggestions triode12, I very keen to get this sorted. Feel like a bit of a tool for putting on rims, exhaust etc., but not looking after the fundemental mechanics :S

I ended up just buying the bolds/subframe spacers from ecs and having local vw mechanic fit, got so frustrated with vw just "tightening" up the bolts each time and saying it was fixed and nff when on test drive.

so booba, did you get the bolts & spacers replaced because of the same problem I'm having? If so, did it work much?

hrm, rereading your post i think you might be more likely to have some other issue. maybe it is engine mounts. my clunking did happen on start/slow down but not as often and definately not on stop/start traffic. I noticed it more when going around corners and probably sounded more like a slight knocking noise.

hrmmm :S :S drove past vwvillage and it seems theyre closed for renovations. Can anyone recommend a knowledgable garage?

I had a clunk exactly like you describe, check the dogbone aka pendulum

I have broken the front bolt on the pendulum twice now, I would recommend not driving it till you check this as it can be an expensive fix once the engine moves and takes out your aircon etc
