I was considering getting a Mk5 GTI, but this thread is making me think twice... How common is it for Mechtronic Units to die?
I hope for your sake that VWA come to the party and chip in.
Just get a manual instead."If can't get behind your troops, feel free to stand in front of them..."

easier said than done... Passat has no manual... tiguan only on entry model, jetta only on entry model... pretty much just polo and golf seem to have more g/box options.
so choosing the engine you want will have to override your choice of gearbox .... something i found out with my current jetta.1974 1300 Beetle, 1997 Golf GL, 2003 New Beetle Cabrio, 2014 Audi A4 quattro

USA DSG Warranty

Finally got my GTI back on the road last week. Driving great. The new Mechtronic Unit has a 2 year warranty which is reassuring.
It's great to have the car back on the road and it seems to be going better than ever.
The dispute with VW Australia begins today. Will keep you all posted. You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.
