  • Average Speed of GTI

    Hi All,

Just wandering what kind of Average speeds are you getting from your trip computers?

I don't know if my is a bit dodgy ~ but, in average stop start traffic i am getting readings of around 28km/hour? Is this the same for you?

I guess it makes sense as i am stopping and starting? but, surely it dosn't take into account of the stopping time into the calculation??

Average speed is the distance travelled divided by the time taken to travel that distance. Time that you are not moving is taken into account and will reduce the average.

Example 1. You are on a freeway, there is no traffic about and you travel 100 Km and it takes you an hour, your average speed is 100 divided by 1 = 100 km/h.
Ecample 2. On the same journey, you are in heavy traffic and the journey takes you two hours, your average speed is 100 divided by 2 = 50 km/h.

    Clear as mud?

    Cheers

Yes, it is depressing being in stop start traffic with a 20km/h average and a fuel average of 14l/100km.

I swear, if they managed the roads better and timed the lights, pollution would be down via the clean runs with less stopping. Nothing worse than getting two red lights when they're 30m apart on a main road, and doing that the whole way.

Making mental note, "take jetta across to Tassie to try out these quiet roads some time soon"

Make sure you do sometime soon vw convert! Average consumption for me last saturday was 7.9/100 too at 125 indicated km/h. Makes it approx 113 km/h with the GTIs 10% speedo error.

                    APEC tragic

I get about the same average speed in Sydney peak hour traffic around the 28 km's per hour mark. I suspect as George Dubbya is in town this week it will be even lower!!

I am comming down to Tassie in January for a tour in the Jetta after the boat ride from Melbourne, looking forward to nice empty motorcade free travel with an averge of 103 km's per hour!!

                    cheers

Man I wouldn't want to be in Sydney this week, or need to go ANYWHERE near the city. The security looks crazy!

APEC It is only going to get worse

To my surprise I averaged a whopping 33Kms per hour today however I think I was lucky tomorrow doesnt look good, all the delegates will be arriving even more red lights that just stay red, at least I wasn't on the Bridge!!

Thanks GTMK5 I might take you up on that.... at least find out the best coastal routes to travel at hopefully a lot better than 33 Kms per hour!

                            cheers
