  • Golf GTI MFD Menu???

    Hey guys,

Just bought a MK5 GTI not long ago. Loving it!! Smooth engine and DSG gear change.

Only thing is that there is rattle behind dash when accelerating and some rattle from the back.

The manual indicates that there is a menu on MFD to change settings. Tried to press the menu button on the steering wheel but no luck. I can go through different views by pressing the up and down button and the menu button doesn't work.

    Anyone have the same problem?

What year model is your GTI? Ours is MY07 (Aug 2006 build) and is the last of the half-screen MFDs. Full screen MFDs were introduced with MY08 builds.

If your car is a similar vintage (or older) than ours then you won't be able to access those menu items. The only exception to this was when the car was optioned with Sat Nav from the factory, then the car would have the full screen MFD and access to those menus.

A quick trip to a VW dealer (or someone like European Autotech, for example), should sort you out if you wanted to change anything.

Thanks Lima. My is June 2006 build so it has half MFD and that is probably why I can't access the menu. I am glad it's not user error
Reading the manual i thought the menu is a standard feature.

Mine is an 07 with sat nav and has a rattle in the dash somewhere. So annoying! I have pulled out the whole centre console, tightened every screw and still can't fix it. Let me know if you solve the mystery.

The rattle from the back is probably the rear seat fold down catches rattling against their U-posts. To stop the problem, tape up the U post with electrical tape.

My GTI has the half MFD which is very annoying, apart from not being able to access things like the come home lights and auto wipers you also cant change the clock to 12hr time! I hate 24hr clocks..

GTI with rattles is the norm, unfortunately. I have rattles which come and go often. Some annoying, some not so bad.
