  • R32 - Noise under rear seat / Engine bay clunk / Brake knock after reversing?!

    Okay....

So my list of niggles goes on! I think I may be pedantic but got to get these questions asked of people that know these things! Didnt want to flood the forums so combined them

Niggle 1) It seems whenever the engine moves (i.e. hard gear change, or quick on/off throttle) there is a clunk that comes from the engine bay. Any ideas, not going to be able to source as have to be driving to get the clunk.

Niggle 2) Everytime I reverse and then break there is quite a decent noise! It sounds like it is coming from the wheels (wheel area), and sounds like something is loose..the best way to say in text is it sounds like .......kerdunk After the first time braking in reverse it then doesnt make a sound

Niggle 3) before anyone jumps on the noise under the rear seat, I am going down the fuel pump option, but its a real whine and definitely more audible inside the car than any other car I have owned...are there any other thoughts of what if could be?

Cheers all for your (I am sure) up and coming help. Sorry for all my questions...as a new owner into the R32 world I am still dumb...I am hoping I can helps others soon

This is a long shot, but noise 1 & 2 sound like the noises my old Peugeot used to make. It was the ball joint on the lower control arm causing the noise on my Peugeot. Could be the same thing on your car. Check your front suspension.

ive had the same thing with mine, of which both 1 and 2 were related. I got all new engine mounts (but dogbone mount/ hpa "hockey puckalone should do the trick), and tightened all the subframe bolts whilst i was down there. It fixed the problem.

I have reason to believe the reverse noise is just the pads moving to the rear of the calipers when braking.

Okay, so I am going to be lining up some time at BWA Auto in the coming weeks (when they get stock) to replace the lower engine mount, and suspension top mounts and bearings. Will probably ask for them to give the car a once over as well, being new to me, and see if anything is obvious for them!

Check your brake pads if there low they eill move more easily in calipers and change of direction will cause a clucnk sound to be heard will not do any damage is normal, As for your fuel pump moise have you had fuel filter replaced recently, possibility that wrong pressure fuel filter fited which will cause whine, And as for clunk in the fronty loosen and retension the subframe bolts theres six all up use large breaker bar to screw them tight. Try all that and see how you go... Cheers

I am pretty sure the fuel filter was replaced in the last service (60K), but will check the paperwork and see. Whats the easiest way to see if its the wrong pressure?

Heard a few rumblings about the sub-frame bolts...will have a go at those on the weekend!

Yeah i've seen it in the past if you had the filter done at a dealership go complain about buzzing and they should replace it no cost to you if
it was accidently fitted with wrong type. In there defence they sometimes on rare occasions can be mixed up as both filters look
identical. Mate of the top of my head i cant remember the pressure diffrences between both it will need to be checked via part numbers.
                Cheers...
