  • Help - Golf V GTI 2007

    Hi Guys,

Just got my demo 07 GTI delivered yesterday - i have some questions.

    1) Does the menu button on the steering wheel work? (my don't). In manual it says to keep clicking and it will bring up settings - my brings up nothing!

    2) My didn't come with the bottle opener in centre console ~ did yours?

    3) I realise unlike my MK4 GOLF the red reflector lights (to let on coming traffic see you have opened door) on driver and passenger door don't light up. Is this right? or does my have a fault.

    4) For the life of me ~ i can't understand how to use trip computer.

    Thanks in advance...

The menu button only works if you get the factory sat nav, which gives you the high line display.

The bottle opener often gets knocked off during delivery, but they are supposed to come with the GTI. Tell the dealer you want yours.

The "red light" looks more like a reflector to me, and mine doesn't light up either.

Yeah, the instructions on the trip computer are crap. Took me 2 weeks before I realised there were 2 trip computers built in.
    Here's how it works.

Use the up/down arrows to scroll through all of the options.

If you see a 1 beside the time, fuel consumption or distance then you are on trip computer 1, which automatically re-sets itself when the car has been turned off for a while (not sure how long, but if you only turn off for say half an hour then it doesn't reset automatically - it consider that to just be a break in the current trip.)

If you see a 2 next to the reading then you are on trip computer 2. You have to re-set this one yourself. To re-set press the OK button and hold for 1 or 2 seconds. you can do the same to re-set trip computer 1.

To switch between trip 1 and trip 2 press the OK button briefly.

To set the alert speed, display the current alert speed and press OK - that clears the speed.
Press OK again and it sets the alert as the nearest 5km/h to your current speed. The reading will be highlighted in red.
Use the up/down arrows to set the speed you want, then press OK again to lock it in.

If you exceeed the set speed it dings and diplays "Speed exceeded", hiding the other readings on the computer.
press OK briefly and the warning goes away. (Except, if you were displaying the alert speed when you exceeded the setting, in which case it goes into the speed setting mode).

Note that the Golf speedos are all out by about 5km/h, so when you see that you are doing 100, you're only doing 95. Speed warning is the same, so it goes off 5km/h too soon.

Try these and ask again if you can't work anything out.

When I picked up my GTI early this week, the salesman passed me the bottle open which was kept in the user manual. Even if yours is a demo, should not cost you anything. Ask your salesman for it!!!

My salesman told me if the bottle opener is left in the car, it will surely be stolen. It's nice with the VW logo on it.

Really?? My dealer told me because I don't have the nav-system and not a MY08 model, the menu button is actually useless.... But if I really want to change any of the setting (like headlight stays on/off after ignition off), I will have to bring back to their service centre..

              And wait for it.................
Get charged heavy fee for doing it.
I don' t think you should get charged, just because you have no other means unless you buy VAG-com.
If they try to charge me for it I will complain to VW Australia

Hey Uomo. Who was your dealer? Sounds like they didn't go through the car with you. Full credit to Barloworld Glen Waverley who sat me down for 40 mins and went through the bits and pieces of the car with me. Although I still needed to consult the manual for some things (ie the sat nav and the menu buttons on the steering wheel) at least I had a starting point.
As for the bottle opener, that too was given to me upon delivery. Even though it was a demo, they really should have had it stored away for the time when someone actually bought the thing.
All's well that ends well...Happy driving!

Mine's a GT without SatNav. The menu button on mine swaps between a) Multi Function Display, b) Audio controls, c) Vehicle Status, and d) Settings.

"If you see a 1 beside the time, fuel consumption or distance then you are on trip computer 1, which automatically re-sets itself when the car has been turned off for a while (not sure how long...)"

                              2 hours, so they say.

"If you exceeed the set speed it dings and diplays "Speed exceeded", hiding the other readings on the computer."

Bloody annoying, isn't it? I use the cruise control for speed control - it doesn't ding

The only button on the wheel that doesn't work is the Phone button (which WILL work if BlueTooth is optioned). The Star button mutes the stereo and is handy if you use a BlueAnt or similar device for your phone.
