Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Funny Headlight Beam's Color ! Please help

    Hi all

My Mk5 R32 Headlight beam's color is a bit funny.

    1. The Right-side is a bit Yellowish and the left side is totally White. and even after I replaced the OEM Bulb (4300K) with Philips Xenon bulbs (6000K), they are still the same .

    2. The projected light beams' pattern do not form a linear line. The shape of the left beam is different from the right beam.

*Both sides are not flickering and headlights are in pretty clean condition.
*Igniters are properly placed (pain in the ass to get these in place).
*I have checked all the Connection and even VW dealer Computer diagnose could not detect any fault.

Any chance the right-side ballast is Faulty? or Am in in some kind of bigger trouble?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. I locate in Melbourne.

    Cheers

After I installed new bulbs into my HID replicas, the bulb itself wasn't seated into the holder properly and caused this "U" shaped cut off. Just something to think about, good luck.

I've read in various forums about HID bulbs changing colour temperature over time, and even as they warm up at each use.
Some apparently change colour more prominently as they are about to blow.

As a result, some people prefer to replace them in pairs when that happens.

Here are a few references I found just now...

      Right HID changing color - Chrysler 300C Forum: 300C & SRT8 Forums
WHy are my HID's changing color? - Honda Civic Forum

      Hope that helps.

Have you tried swapping the ballasts from side to side and seeing if it changes?

I have tried to swap the bulb around and whichever bulb in the right housing - Yellowish

That suggests the voltage may be down on that side.

Might be the ballast, but could also be resistance just about anywhere in the circuit to that lamp.

If it's not the ballast, look for bad contacts or corrosion between the bulb and where the supply line joins the rest of the circuit.

Don't forget the ground side — bad earths are a very common cause of lighting problems.
