Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Airbag warning problem

G'day all, I had only had my MYO7 2.0 TDI for 1 week and the airbag warning light came on.
A mate had just sat in the car and adjusted the drivers seat and within a minute or two the airbag light came on.

After having a search through the forum here it sounded to me like it was a problem with the loom or plug under the seat.

300km drive to the dealer to get it looked at, and it turned out to be e break in the wire going from the a-pillar into the LH door through the rubber grommet.

They had to take the whole door apart to fix it. Doorskin and all off.
They said they had never seen that problem before.

The car is 2nd hand, but immaculate. No accident damage at all. Just one of those things I guess.
Nothing lotsa dollars couldn't fix though.

at least they found the problem and it was a relatively easy fix....
a friend of ours had a new beetle that was a few years old and had the air bag light come on... dealership told her it was a fault in the seat and needed to replace the whole seat (at ridiculous $$$ of course)
she drove off and said she would call them back to organise a time to do it.... i convinced her to get a second opinion and took it to a vw/audi specialist that i use .... he found that some wiring on the passenger seat had come loose.
no new seat needed and fixed within a few hours.

In my case the tech found the code told him it was a sensor problem in the LH door apparently, not a problem with a connection or plug.
