  • Jetta space saver???

Changed my first VW Golf mk5 tyre yesterday, and don't own a vw yet.

Young lady in distress at Penrith.

Obviously been driving on the tyre for sometime, still looked like it had air
    but was definitely flat.

Lifted the rear cover for the spare and .....what..... space saver.
All I could think of was why did I not do my research better before
placing my deposit for the Jetta.

Help me out here guy's... I imagine the Jetta will be the same as golf
    and have the space saver????.

Anyway this young lady said "the first thing tomorrow I'm buying a full spare tyre"
I said.. "good Idea"... until I tried to put the flat tyre into the space saver
    hole..... Would not fit.

So this pore young thing then had to find a garage to fix the the tyre before
driving back to Newcastle as the Space saver had a yellow sticker
    Max 80km/h.
How do these manafactures expect someone to drive on the busiest
freeway in Australia (Newcatle- Sydney) at a max of 80km/h in
peak hour. Accident waiting to happen.

So how has anyone over come the bump in the boot with a full spare
    tyre.??
    Neil.

Apparently the Jetta FSI and TDI get 'full size' 16 inch steel as the spare.

The Jetta TFSI which comes with 17 inch alloys get the same 16 inch steelie as the FSI and TDI but is labelled as 'Space saver'. I had a chat to the dealer about getting a full size spare for the TFSI I ordered. But since i went for the optional 18" Charlestons, it was physically impossible to fit a full size 18" rim + type into the spare tyre well.

Finally found the Jetta brochure and yes full standard spare.
Just hope they have not changed the new MY08 model to space saver.
          Thank everyone for you reply.
          Neil.
