Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Loose U Latch, what else is loose

    Hi guys,

I just went to from Melbourne to Adelaide and back (1600km). When I came back, I had to try couple of times to close the door then I discovered that the U latch was very loose. The latch is so loose, I can easily move it around with my fingers and the door doesn't close completely snug. It maybe a coincidence or it maybe not.

The U latch correct me if I am using the wrong term, but I am referring to the fixed part on the car frame where the door locks in when shut.

    Car: Golf Mk5 2.0 TDI 2009

It is not a big issue to fix especially that the car is under warranty, but my confidence has been shaken by the quality of the car.

My question is: if this latch is loose, what else could have been shaken loose?

I would like to have some information before I take the car in for a warranty repair, because the guys in service are awful. Their primary responsibility is to absolve themselves of any responsibility.

Mine are fine but a couple of nuts that hold the door skin on were slightly loose. I grabbed a spanner & tightened it myself, job done.
I know when we buy a new car, we expect everything to be perfect. If it's made by humans it won't be.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.
