  • Solved: MK5 GTI DSG jumping (new DSG under warranty)

    hi all,

We bought our GTI brand spankers from VW barloworld here in Melb.

Well after about 30,000 kms and VW having so many goes at fixing it to the point that i was speaking to consumer affairs, the DSG in our GTI appears to be fixed. I thought i would just report back with my experience.

At 30k it starting hopping on take off and quite badly in reverse. VW reset the adaptations in the gearbox and it went away. 6 months later it came back, so they did it again even. Well when it came back a third time i jumped out and down a little (which is what was required) and a week of having the car they said that they cant really find anything wrong with it but VW has said to replace the mechatronic unit.

Well that fixed it... for another couple of months as im guessing the standard clearing of the adaptations did the trick rather than the mechatronic unit.

Back again. This time 2 weeks with the dealer and they still could not find anything wrong with it (they admit it was faulty though, it was reproducible) , VW shrugged their shoulders and they replaced the flywheel as a last restort. Get it back on a friday, as soon as i got home, i reversed it into the garage and guess what.. hopping away as per normal. Suffice to say there was a rather stern phone call to VW and that i would drop it off on monday *cue call to consumer affairs*.

Well after another week they REALLY put their arms in the air and VW just said that since they did mechatronic and flywheel that the only other thing was a DSG, so thats what they did, replaced the entire gearbox and TOUCH WOOD!!!!!, it has been fine for about 3 weeks now, so after all that, a new DSG did the trick.

Just a FYI for those that have had/are having the same issue. Happy to elaborate if anyone needs any assistance.

    Cheer,
    Aaron

I don't know what chances would you have with *consumer affairs*, I never saw them with the spanner in the hand, fixing anything. Anyway, credit to VW that they fixed it, huh.

Glad to hear you have it fixed now, cheers for the detailed update. Would be interested know what it actually was in the DSG causing that though, im sure they wont know, but just replaced it and with luck its gone. Still keeps it a mystery in a way and for them too really, boxes generally go back and get reco, and sent back as an exchange unit. Be nice if The engineers could give a report, even if it were to back upi the warranty claim. Did they touch on what it was or just fit and cross fingers???

I had the exact same problem and after the third return to Barlo i sent letter direct to VWA the next day they approved a new mechatronic unit which did nothing so in the end they replaced the whole box since then ive had no trouble .

pretty much same here, they dont really know what went wrong with it, nor any confidence that it wont come back, not awe inspiring
