Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Particularly when seeing the crap that comes out of the catch can when I empty it :S
I think the catch can is a top idea for that engine
    Any pics???

So I installed the Bluefin unit on saturday, and didn't notice a huge increase in performance like other gti owners seem to report. It seems a little quicker up top and a bit more responsive in first gear but not sure if I can feel the extra 30kw like I thought I would. Maybe my expectations were a little high, or maybe my DV or PCV is already stuffed?

What's the quoted torque increase for the tune? Often the torque is where you "feel" the car pulling harder and is generally the main difference in an aggressive tune rather than a mild one (like Bluefin) rather than the kw output. For example the DNA mild stg1 (380nm) vs aggressive stg1 (410ish) tune is 30nm whereas the kw difference between the two is only 6kw.

Is your engine running more smoothly?

335nm so a 55nm increase which I thought would be very easy to notice. I can certainly notice some performance increase, like going up hills requires less effort but it just didn't shock me like I thought it would.

              I think so, slightly.

Hmm its hard to tell if its just in my head or not, is there any other way apart from a Dyno to find out how much power it has?

It isn't a night and day difference for sure. Most of the gains should be higher up the rev range.

My GTI's fuel economy improved too.

You can log a variety of parameters, in particular air intake mass and ignition timing to see how much more performance the tune is commanding.

55Nm is a very mild increase; our 380Nm tune (100Nm increase) is already considered mild, some of my customers end up going for the more aggressive tune as a result. Peak power we have to taper down to around 184kW(mild tune)/188kW(aggressive tune) to keep the turbo within safe operating limits; this can be opened up with our Stage 2/2+ programs with accompanying downpipe/intercooler/intake mods.

I'm sure you're right John, a more aggressive tune would probably satisfied my needs but having said that I didn't want to compromise the long term reliability of the car considering I use it for work and I am already on 120k. I think I have to give the BF tune some more time.
