  • Centre Dash Air Vent

Has anyone come up with or seen a good fix for the centre vent. I never use mine and it's a rattley, squeaky thing. I've seen pics of mk5's with just an open bin on top (those cars without climate control I assume). Is it possible to install this on a car with the climate control centre vent?

Check this thread out for the solution:

Mine only rattled on B-roads and it was fixed last week by my dealer under warranty - they used automotive flocking tape.

Allegedly there's a new centre vent top piece/tray thing that is available. Has new part numbers and doesn't rattle. No need for tape. I know mine rattles and I can't wait to replace it.

The last post on this thread (which nobody followed up) about replacing it with a tray is exactely what I'm interested in.

Replacing the vent with gauges as per photo is a bit rice burner for my personal tastes...

Does the air vent get replaced with a speaker in the models with 10 speakers?

Unfortunately not. The 10 speakers all sit in the doors 3 in each of the fronts, and 2 in each of the backs. Not sure about the 3 door cars though.

If there is a OEM tray in the right size then I think it could be done. It would pay to speak to your dealer about it.

I had a look on ECS and there is a tray available but only for cars without automatic climate control which would preclude most cars sold locally I think. However there is a rubber seal thingy that may help with rattles.

That noise was driving me MAD.

Fortunately I found this fix: soylentmean: Rabbit / GTI Mk5 Air Diffuser rattle fix

It's cheap (only uses the soft side of about 1m of velcro tape) and you can do it very quickly.

                    Squeak is gone now!

I've got the tray on the top of the dash... and it squeaks too.

I'm planning to fit the tray regradless of having climate control. There'll be a way around it if the reasoning behind this is because of the temp sensor location.
