For low 20's i would be looking at a GT 2.0tdi or a GTI with slightly higher kms.
    yeah thats what I was thinking, especially if it's been in an accident of some form. To be honest i saw the car advertised a fair while ago but didnt act on it due to uni work. It makes me suspicious that it's still for sale. Only way to find out is to go and check it out I guess!
    Iv gone and done a bit of a hunt for a GT, and I found a 1.4 TSI DSG for 20k... could be worth a look....

    @TDI DSG
    The comfortlines list are actually surprisingly expensive at the moment. Dont know why. But yeah, I drove a DSG once a few years ago, but it was very fun. As you say, its especially nice when ur stuck in traffic!

      There was an awesome 08 silver GT 2.0tdi with leather and sunroof and lowish kms and it was 25k! that was such a good buy, but its since gone. Keep your eyes peeled though they do pop up. I actually saw a black 06 GTI with 60k for 20k but it was manual. I paid 22k for my06 GTI and that was over a year ago, so there is no way i would be paying that for a 2.0tdi now.

          104k its manual black with no options (except tint) but was 1 owner with full vw history and in mint condition, it seems its done mostly highway kms. Somedays I do miss having leather but for the price I paid im happy.

          You just have to be quick and patient, if one pops up go there with a cheque, my guy had 23k on it and i ended up getting it for 22.3k he would not take 22k despite my trying efforts.

            Doesn't VIC have similar road rules to NSW?
            mainly green Ps are free to drive auto OR manual.

            While red Ps is restricted to the type they did their test in (auto or manual)

            Or is that just in NSW

              Manual or auto aside, if you are worried about the car breaking down, look for one that has factory warranty remaining. There is a thread up the top about VW extended warranty, which you can then purchase if you want to keep the car for a few years. This will most likely mean no 2.0TDi DSG, but you might be able to get something like a Mk6 with plenty of factory warranty remaining for around or under $20k.

                in victoria "If you pass your drive test in an automatic vehicle, you will be restricted to driving automatic vehicles while you hold a probationary licence. The only way you can remove this condition is to pass a test in a vehicle with manual transmission. At the end of the probationary period, you can drive vehicles with manual transmission without having to do another driving test provided the condition is not required due to a disability"

                  Here's the cheapest MK6 with DSG on the market. Most are over $23K
