  • Queensland Transport Roadside Checks

Anyone here got stopped for a spot check before? There was one on my way to work yesterday at Redcliffe but didn't get stopped. However, a few of the officers did give my car a stare as I drove by probably realizing I had coilovers. I guess with stock detroits and a no other major mods my jetta didn't raise too much attention looking at it from the front. Just got me thinking about the legal height and also whether air intake mods are legal in queensland?

According to the Qld Transport website, Aftermarket suspension is legal as long as the car is no lower than 100mm off the road at the lowest point....http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/c7..._vehicles2.pdf

Awesome. Think I should be able to clear 10cm all round pretty easily They don't say anything about aftermarket air intakes though

Spot on. Have to say my heart did beat a little faster when 5 of them guys stared as my car as I drove past. Couldn't be more happy with my mods so far and wouldn't think twice about returning it to stock.

Pretty sure intakes are legal as long as they are shielded from the rest of the engine bay (like a carbonia, VF or AWE intake is). If you have a SuperBarnCo pod on the end of pvc pipe with a piece of cardboard around it, well, you deserve to get done . Since you don't, you should be fine...

Rules are 100mm from the lowest point of your car with a full load i.e. 4-5 adults in the car also and a full tank of petrol. Air filters do not have to be enclosed/shielded/boxed like NSW. They just need to be securely fixed onto the chassis of the car, that means can't just be zip tied onto something else.

Actually Bwen, they do need to be "enclosed" from the engine bay (Its a fuel vapor / fire risk thing) in QLD - there have been a few people defected for it, and our engineer wont pass them.

Maybe they were thinking "What a cool car! Wish I had one of those."

Is that a new rule? When I got my Silvia registered mine passed DOT and was given a engineer's blue plate for my engine which had an exposed air filter but was fixed to the chassis, or maybe I was let off easy?

Thanks mate. I guess it's only a matter of time before I get pulled up for them. In the meantime, an extra 7 kw is nice.
