  • Hid Kits From China

Just ordered two sets of 6000k HID kits from China which will do both high and low beam as they both run H7 globes. Sounds like should be OK as not happy with Crystal vision upgrade that I just completed. Not sure If I will need to have VAGCOM settings changed to allow for the HID setup. If anyone knows let me Know!!!. Can't see why this will be needed though. Total cost for the two sets including shipping was AU$220.00. So if you just wanted one set would be around $110.00. Checked with AutoBarn and they wanted well over $300.00 for one set....OUCH!!!. Any way here is the link.

xenon upgrades into non projector headlights are a bit questionable i think.

Cant see how it will be ill fitted .. a monkey can replace globes...you are not changing the light reflector unit so the light placement on the road is the same..although will be brighter... good thing for me as standard lights are crap..besides this if you look at place of origin of many parts on your vdub you will find that they are made in china...otherwise you would be paying thousands more for your new car...you probably still have the plastic covers on yor seats as you thought this was the way the car was meant to stay...STANDARD

lets keep this thread nice guys please.

unfortunately, people will do this mod.if they so decide that blinding the oncoming driver, thats their problem and if it causes a issue with the constabulary that again is a issue for them and them alone.

its becoming a cheap and easy mod,and the nay sayers are few ,is there a point to standing in front of the tidal wave?

                  +1

If your car has projector lamps then that is fine, but if your using open chamber lights please don't use HID's.

                    Hi Tim,

Pardon my ignorance but can you explain to me what is meant by projector headlights? I've seen the term used before in reference to HID but I'm not clear on what it means.

                    Cheers

Projector lights help direct the beam, as to non projector lights go everywhere and cause glare its a very fuzzy beam not clear and cut so to speak!

So we are talking about the shape of the reflector and lens only or is it more involved?

Sounds like the right way to do this would be to rpelace the entire headlight assembly.

                        Cheers

Yes it would, but are the mk5 headlights different with HID and non HID

a projector is like a big lens that the beam gets focused through. If you put xenons into an open chamber reflector type headlight you may create a lot of glare as the beam isnt focused in the same fashion.
have a look at a pic of R32 headlights and yuo will see what i mean.

im by no means an expert but install them when u get them and see how u go. But if it were me id upgrade the actual lights to a projector style headlight as well.

                              Reply Re Hids

I think you are all missing the point. HIDs should only be used in a seperate low beam light situation as on the MK5. No point in using them in high beam light as they are turned on and off all the time and HIDs don't suite this application and yes, in high beam applications they would be very brite although no worse than a 4x4 with driving lights or projector lights. In the low beam application, as I am going to use them for, the light beam is directed a shorter distance from the car because of the reflector design and has nothing to do with the K power of the globe. Poorly adjusted lights will always cause problems to on comming cars. So, correctly fitted HIDs are a plus in low beam illumination therefore safer for all road users. Projector lights are low beam and because the beam is narrowed and intensified by the lense are extreamly bright to on comming cars, By the way HIDS are not illegal as they are already fitted to some new cars. In the latest Autobarn junk mail HIDs are on sale for $399.00. The set I am getting from china where $110.00 a set delivered. The one's in autobarn were made in china by the way!!! Will let you know how they go anyway. If they are crap only lost $110.00 and can return lights back to standard halogen globes. Hope this clears up some of the doubt about HID light use.
