Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hi everyone!!!

I am a new member of here. 6 more weeks to go for my new GT (2008 spec, DSG, leather and tinted). But in my mind, I am still thinking of getting the GTI instead. The steering wheel and gearknob is great on the GTI. But is it true that the GTI has a stiffer suspension? If so, I will stick on to the GT, because it's for everyday driving.
    Cheers!!!

      welcome carven,

im sure the difference in suspension is slight, you are not comparing a truck to a car!! haha, the ride will be relatively the same, why dont you go for a test drive???

I only had a test drive on the GT, I should have tried the GTI as well. But I guess the waiting period would be much longer on GTI, right?

Only one way to find out, ask.

The GTI suspension is reasonably stiff. There also isn't a great deal of bodyroll. It all depends on your tastes and what set-up you are coming from previously as to what is acceptable.

I don't mind it at all for daily driving, though on one highway that was 'rippled' the suspension seemed to get in harmony and bounced the hell out of me and my passengers which is the only negative I have about the GTIs ride.

Haven't driven the GT myself but most reviews seem to say the GT suspension is a bit softer than the GTI.

The waiting time will depend on the specs you order - when I went to a dealer a few weeks ago I could pick one up within 2-4 weeks if I ordered something that was already on the boat (and not ordered), otherwise it was a four month wait if nothing like it has been shipped. Just depends on what you want.

            Good luck!

I will soon be part of this VW family. Since I need a car urgently within a week, I went to my dealer yesterday and see what they have in stock. No GTs (with the extras I want) but I changed my mind to a higher spec. GTI!!! Great car, and I will pick it up the coming Wednesday. These are the specs of my new car:

              GTI 5drs
              Metallic Silver
              Leather Trim
              Sunroof
              DSG

              Just can't wait for it!

By the way, anyone here knows how much would it cost to paint the rear low part bumper? I had a quote sometime ago, $150 per piece...

                          Welcome,
I've not driven the GT but they are flying out of the dealerships in WA. Somehow I think the GTi would be my 1st choice. You'll love it.

                            Hi Carven,

Great choice, spec is similar to my Jetta. I can guarantee you will love the car, a really sweet drive. I've had mine for a few days short of 12 months, my wife has never driven it and she often has to prise me out of the drivers seat.

                            Cheers

GREAT GREAT CAR!!! The time the dealer picked me up at my workplace, he told me he is going to give me a big surprise... Just after I signed all the paper work, he told me he has done the Paint Protection stuff (called Fifth Element or Fifth Generation, or something like that) on my car for free (worth $2000 which includes window tinting)... it comes with a package with a bottle of wet shampoo, dry shampoo, glass cleaner and leather treatment...

Best dealer I ever see here in Brisbane, very friendly and nice... (I brought mine from Highway Auto Group)

One more thing to mention, the tinted windows are great!!!
