MK5 OEM Battery Facts?

Hey there,

(Was trying to get some answers in a different thread, but realised it's for an older model.)

For a Golf MK5 2.0 TDI I'm currently looking for a suitable battery replacement.
I attached a picture of the OEM battery below.

Browsing around the web for answers did not help much as the information out there is somewhat confusing.
I hope someone here can bring more clarity into this.

What are the Cranking Amps (CA) the diesel MK5 needs?
How many Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) does this car need?
And how many Ah should the battery have?

Would appreciate a quick answer to these questions as it will facilitate my search for a replacement and can't decipher the little information available on the current battery.

Been looking around (have the same vehicle) and the pickings seem to be very slim.
Your battery (and mine) says 70 Ah so the recommendation is AT LEAST the same.
CCA apparently is different depending on whether it is Aussie or Yank CCA.
I would shop first on Ah. Mine has done well past 6 years, and my opinion, is because it has caps i can access to add water.
I was looking at getting the same again but Varta only now has sealed batteries.
Federal has a comprable one but at Batteryworld they wanted $$$$
Haven't looked at RACV or others.
They all seen to list petrol ones (lower Ah) but the diesels suck more juice starting.
Every couple of months equalise charge.

Will be interesting to see other replies.

I recently picked up a 2005 MKV TDI 2.0 - installed in it is a relatively new Supercharge MF66.

Interesting thread. I am currently looking at replacing the battery in my 2.0L turbo so I am going to go and check out battery world to see what they come up with. I'll let you know, although I realise that you guys need one for a diesel. You never know who you talk to cause one guy might know alot whilst the next guy mightn't know anything!!

The answer is in front of your eyes. Volkswagen specced that battery as suitable for your car so you need to keep to those specifications. I would purchase another battery from your Volkswagen dealer, the prices are reasonable for a battery that's made in Germany, the quality of the battery is assured and it will fit without any problems. Cheap batteries are not worth purchasing, there's a thread on here from someone in Brisbane who ended up with over $1000 damage after a cheap battery decided to blow and that battery manufacturer would do nothing except replace the battery.

You're looking at around $250 for the replacement battery.

Uhmmm what further information do you need on a battery?

It has the manufacturer, a part number, the voltage (12v), it's capacity (70 Ah) and it's CCA ratings for both DIN (340A) and EN/SAE (570A). Apart from that you need the battery pole information which is clearly visible and the measurement of the battery can be easily obtained.
