  • DSG Clunk sound...

    Hi there,

Yes another DSG thread...the story goes like this. Twice in the last 4 months, upon a cold start up and then shifting into R, the gearbox, i presume, has emitted a single clunk, metal sound. I mentioned it to the dealer when it went in for it's 2 year service. Their recommendation was to bring it in overnight whereby they would do a "cold start" test the next morning. It's yet go through this process. Just two days ago i experienced the same metal clunk sound, however it occured upon start up and not from an entirely cold engine as it had been driven for 8-10 minutes in the last 45 minutes.

I intend on booking it into the dealer in the next week or two for the "cold start" observation. I'll keep you informed however if you have any suggestions it would be appreciated.

    MkV GTI, DSG, 20,800klm.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you applying the handbrake with the car in neutral, releasing the foot brake so the hand brake is holding the car and then changing into P? Or just putting the car in P, putting the handbrake on and turning the car off?

Is the car parked on a slope?

The recent episode was a straight ignition turn on whilst the car was in P and HB on. This occured on a very slight incline.

The other two times the car was placed into R with foot on brake whilst HB on. Either the clunk occured whilst releasing the HB or soon after, i can't quite remember. These two occured whilst the car was in the garage.

I get a similar clunk when going fro reverse to drive or vice versa when it's cold. I just assumed it was normal because I know DSG's can be clunky.
