Just wanted to confirm that the GTI takes 5w-30 oil?
Is it normal for a GTI to flash the oil change light after 7500km of driving?
Would only flash at 7500km if time period exceeded 12 months. Sometimes the service interval isn't set correctly at PD (mine was set to Variable Service 30,000km/2years). Up to you whether you pull the trigger early or reset it for another 7500km, then get it set properly at the service.
Oil needs to be 502.00 minimum, preferably 504.00.

The FSI engines can use some oil and the manual says that up to 1L/1000km is ok (although I would be concerned if it used that much). Mine uses about 1L/1750km which is pretty heavy and I'm about to have it looked at. Again, lots of threads in the oils section of the forum.

There are known cases of these engines consuming oil well outside the maximum allowable, which has been rectified by a replacement long motor. However, this will not occur unless the VW-specified oil consumption test is carried by the dealership.
