Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Jetta Fluid leak

Hi all, recently I picked up the Jetta from a panel beater after it sustained some front end damage to the right edge of the bumber bar. The damage required replacement of the bumper bar, lip spoiler, left side headlight and left side guard. Although there was no damage to the bonnet it was resprayed. NRMA confirmed that there was no mechanical damage as a result, it was a very minor collision.

Since picking the car up, i have noticed alot of fluid leaking below the underside of the car, obviously when it is parked. The fluid doesnt really have an odour and is clear. The temp of the car is running normal and coolant level remains the same. I've also noticed a burning like smell everytime the car is running, it is definately not the smell you get when you run the breaks or tyres hard but it occurs now all the time while the car is running and when switched offf. The leak and smell have been around now for a week. I do not get any warning lights at all.

Before I take it in for service, I just wanted to get a feel for what the problem might be? Do not want to get ripped off.

If its water, maybe its from the A/C and thats normal.

Get your mechanic to check it out.

Could be this but it would stop leaking once emptied. If it's not that it's more then likely your A/C which will be normal so maybe your a little paranoid from the accident. Either then that can't be anything else if it's clear
