Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

    Silicon radiator hoses

    Has anyone ever bought one of those 8 piece radiator hoses kits for their GTi off ebay?

    AUDI VW GOLF GTI 2.0 FSI MKV MK5 Turbo hose RED | eBay

    If so can someone post up a photo of what it looks like in their engine bay? Can't figure out where all those hoses go and I want to try and work out if any of them would be compatible with the engine in my GT or are the something exclusive for the GTi only.

    Best way to find out would be to ask the seller — he has them for other makes as well, so it's probable your model is included.

    BTW, if you get them, don't expect them to run at the quoted working pressures — your diesel might stand them, but your seals, radiator and heater assuredly wouldn't.

    Those are certified pressure vessel ratings (1Mpa = 145PSI and he's quoting .3 (47PSI) to .9 (130PSI.)

      I've heard mixed reports of the quality of these aftermarket silicon hoses from sources on motorbike forums that I frequent.

      Perosnally I wouldn't take the risk. When a simple part like this fails you'll be stranded at minimum, and at the worst have a very large bill to pay....

      Going with a reputable brand (e.g. Samco) is less of a risk in my opinion.
      MKV Golf 2.0 TDI DSG Sportline. Just nice.

        Already looked into it mate, the GTI and TDI blocks are quite different, and whilst you possibly could run some of the hoses, the bends are all wrong. Bummer huh?
