LMAO, once again the ".:R vs R" argument... just like there used to be the "GTI vs .:R" argument that finally just got left alone, finally, when the R hit the streets... "mine is better!" "No! Mine does this and yours doesn't..."
They are just different cars, each person with their own tastes and all, just leave it at that.
i can see why someone might perceive the above mentioned "level out" effect when they are used to turbo lag..... then finally power, often too late when no longer needed
IMO the mk5 GTI and the pirelli felt weird and somewhat cheap to the touch. That tyre look interior upholstery of the pirelli really drove me off, not to mention the major jump in price for a grill, some wheels and minor power... And whats with the branding, just buy some rubber if you really want the pirelli experience, right?????
Now with an adidas edition, kinda lame IMO. What's next? Jordan Jettas and Shaq Sciroccos??? lol, T-pain touareg?
The main reason for going for the .:R as a choice at the time... The amount of GTIs around now makes me sick to the stomach... so glad i didn't. It's a great car for average HR lady and their price don't get me wrong... although still a golf, the .:R feels and looks far better, and the way it handles, although much heavier and lets face it, the first time i heard that sound, it got half a bar going...
It does feel somewhat like a classic. It may not appreciate much, but may hold off depreciation a little better after it's initial plunge. keep in mind it is worth a lot more initially, but being a little more rare does give it some specialty.
Cars can and do appreciate in value specially because they are no longer made, specially if in high demand, like 200k muscle cars for example. Some midlife crisis guy who couldn't afford one as a teenager still wants it and will pay top dollar for one. Supply/demand. It doesn't need to be an enzo to appreciate. Some make decent money hunting cars around for rich fat old bald men.
The But IMO the Golf R is a sad attempt to continue the R line. It should really have kept the v6, the noise with a 3.6L twin turbo with 350 bhp,a good 400nm and dubs or something instead, with a different body to the mk6 golf, perhaps more scirocco-ish. IMO talladegas are a major fail. it's such a rip from the mk5 mod with the rs4 wheel look...If you look at what other manufacturers are doing to their cars, i would say it wasn't a strong step for vw in the evolution of this rat race.
Let's hope the wrc polo inspires production of a polo .:R 3.2L supercharged 4 motion polo with 19s and and vwr bbk or brembos
BACK TO THE POINT HERE......on the .:R check:
dsg for flogging
the lumbar support
handbrake function, also the handle
rear bumper tailgate alignment
headlight alignment
suspension, steering and components and wheel wells
undercarriage damage, specially if a little lower than normal.
