Check for judders and issues with the DSG. Check door locks all working correctly, check the service books if it has been regularly maintained. Check where they've had the car serviced, I would always check the bolts that hold the front guards on if they have been removed(usually only removed if had accident). Check your aircon and have a look at the under carriage for hits... oh yeah and check the spare wheel well for any leaks. All that should be a good start

What do you mean by judders and issues what can go wrong and which bolts are you talking about and how can you tell if they have been removed. And where abouts to look at for the under carriage.

When you take the car for a test drive see if it feels really jerky when selecting gears(normally driving and in "D"). Keep an eye on what rpm the car changes gear at, usually tells you how the previous owner drives it. The main bolt I usually look at straight away is the one when you open the door and is at the top corner of the front guard. Also check the positions of the other bolts that hold the guard to the body. Just check if they look like they've been moved and are in a different spot, usually can tell if paint is worn off from bolt. Just have a quick look under the car, and look for any leaks or gouges underneath the car. Just get a torch and see if anything looks sus

Im going to keep it but i will eventually sell it. Its still a fantastic car but not as exciting as the R32. The R32 is becoming rare and very collectable and i think in the years to come the price is going to sky rocket its a classic. Fastest Ever VW Golf made. Audi TT 3.2 V6 with roids mixed together with an Audi derived awd system. Can't beat that. The R32 Won't get modified i hope. Its hard to get rid of the Mod bug.

Are you thinking of the MKIV version (rare)?

new golf R (188kW/330Nm) is quicker then MKV R32 (186kW/320Nm) - even more of a gap when you tune them!

Don't like the golf R Its just an old 8P Audi S3 engine in a facelift and the sound is rubbish and its not as subtle and beautiful as the Golf mk5 r32. the mk6 isn't the new generation vw golf it was a minor update/facelift. The new mk7 comes out next year. All mkIV r32 have been thrashed stripped and raced and blown clutches and its old now and there are not many neat ones left there. The Mkv r32 is sure to increase in value in the future due to the last and the Fastest v6 golf ever made. Think about it which one would you buy. As if you dont love you mk5 r32.

I still dont get it, it's not the fastest golf ever made? Or am I missing something in the wording (noticed the capital F in "Fastest") lol.

The Golf R its just a boring 2.0T. its boring compared to the mk5 r32. The R32 MKV Is the history of the R32's trust me there going to appreciate in value in years to come. There never ever going to make the R32 ever again.

You obviously haven't driven a chipped one... I love the torque of a R32 but it levels out in the mid range which is quite depressing as you want it just to keep pulling. IMO both the R and R32 have their strengths and weaknesses, but I would choose the 2lt over the 3.2lt

? Levels out in the midrange? Hmmm, mine doesnt do that. Still, not sure about them going up in value. It is a car not a house.

I don't see them appreciating, they'll bottom out and good ones will fetch a premium but there's no way you can buy one today and expect to get more for it in 10 years time, even if you didn't use it. Just my opinion.....

The torque curve levels out through the mid range as opposed to the turbo

Don't buy a car thinking it will appreciate in value just because it won't be made anymore.

Old is old. New technology makes old cars obsolete. The only cars that appreciate in value is what is decided in 30 years time to be a 2000's vintage ^_^
