  • Advice on buying Jetta TDI 06/07 - Man

    Hi all,

Just after some advice or hints on what to look for and expect with my potential purchase of a Jetta TDI late 06/07 model, 6spd manual.

Im not much of a Diesel person,so all help is very much appreciated!!

Iv had a golf V and Audi B5 and had the usual probs with both but hoping the TDI is more reliable (and chaper to run - new job, lots of driving)

Also, what are they worth with 80000km?

    Thank in advance!
    Mikk

I test drove a few Tdi (both manual and DSG) before deciding on my car. Got a feel for the differences between cars. Checked service history.

Timing belt and water pump should be changed every 4 years or 90,000km (despite recommendations of 100+ KM) to be on the safe side. I had a funny droning noise when turning left when the car was cold and it turned out to be a faulty steering rack (picked up during RWC as I asked for it to be checked).

Reliability - I havent had the car long enough to provide an answer but I have done over 10,000Km since getting the car and have had zero problems (drive 100km a day). Just got T belt done as it was on 90,000KM. Economy is great - 1000km a tank approx and that's not driving slowly. On the advice of some forum posters I also use Morey's fuel additive every tank, it seems to make the car run smoother

BTW I forgot to check that I had RCD310 and only had RCD300 head unit so no mp3 playback. Not sure if all 2007 models came standard with RCD300 only. Also have half height MFD instead of full height like some model years

      Cheers for the reply.

Both cars im looking at are manual and have about 85k on them. RDC300 units on both.

Im assuming servicing Deisel is more expensive than petrol and the T Belt and water pump bout $1k to do?

T Belt, water pump, T Belt kit , coolant etc about $850 when I got it done a couple of weeks ago. Minor service about $200 on top of that

I've had mine since new...... Absolutely no issues. Great drive!

Just had the TB done at 105,000 km.

The full height MFD & RCD310 both became standard in the 08 spec which came out in late 07 (I ordered mine in late July & it didn't arrive in the country until late Oct).

On average you'll get around 900 klms out of a full tank. A diesel should cost less than a petrol to service as there are less parts to change on major services. Being that your buying a manual too it will keep the cost down of servicing a DSG every 60k as manual gear oil is meant for the life of the vehicle. Diesels are great just make sure you regularly service it and I don't mean a oil and filter service either. Quite a few diesel specialists have chipped their cars and man they have some torque

Timing belt will be the same cost as a petrol, we usually charge $1200 for timing belt, tensioner, water pump, idler + fitting.

Had a look tonight. It's a one owner car, great overall condition. Needs new rooflining out of all things. Drives real good. I need to go back to look at it during the daylight but the seller is going away for a few weeks so I'll keep looking for now. If nothing comes up, I'll get it nrma tested when he gets back. I'm thinking it's worth bout 16 or so. Not sure what they are going for.

Just a heads up about the roof lining, if you get a dealer to do the job it will cost you a fair bit in labour. If you decide to do it yourself it is quite difficult too, I find it easiest to remove a front seat to get it out and new one in.

                            Roof l

That's bizarre. Mine is a 2007 and the roof lining is perfect.

                            Water/flood damage? Ask some questions.

Very strange that there is damage to the roof lining. Never seen it happen in any of the cars I have owned. Exterior damge I can unsderstand or some interior scuffs or wear on seats etc but roof lining...I agree with riley, do ask some questions

Try carpoint.com.au , I find they have a larger choice of private seller cars
