  • rear headrest removal

having only owned japanese cars in the past that come apart a pretty easy and aussie ones where they fall apart i have been deeply confused by the rear headrest on the gti is there a button other than the adjustment release to remove the headrest all together ?

Can get it to the top but can't remove it, just to make adjusting the capsule strap easier.

    thanks

Is it the centre one? Mine seems jammed too - I can get the other two out easy the middle one just slides all the way to the top- the button on the side of the slider doesn't seem to do anything.

The outer ones remove but the centre one is not designed to be removeable.

I think what you are looking for (for the outer ones only) is on the pole opposite to where the headrest release button is there is a tiny rectangular hole which you need to push a paperclip in to release the other pole.

I never had this issue until recently, which left me thinking the centre headrest was broken. Here is another link with more pics -

This is a very simple small mod to make removing the rear seat headrests easy when you want to fold the seats down. Mine is a North American 2012 JSW so if your hardware looks different this may not work for you. Raise the headrest to the stopping point. This mod worked on my middle headrest...

instead of shopping for a cap with pusher, I turned the 'pushless cap' anti clockwise, and left insitu. There is enough room between seat-back and head rest to raise cap-to-depress the (hidden) pusher.
