Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • baby capsule install

i think i have installed this correctly in the car but there seems to be a large difference between the angle of the back seat in the golf and the angle of the capsule itself.

Reading around the place apprently this should be packed out with towels and even professional installers pack out gaps with towels.

Seems scary to me but just wanted to see what everyone else was experiencing, sad to think we can't get isofix here but packing with towels is okay . . .

I'd buy an isofix setup from the UK or NZ, it fits the car properly and is much safer in a side impact and safer in a front or rear impact. Technically illegal but really what's more important, an outdated ADR (where they acknowledge that isofix is superior in their last review but don't allow it) or your childs safety?

Doesn't help you with your question but may give you an option. If you do a search you will find a number of threads on isofix as well as places to purchase for others that have gone down the isofix path.

I don't know but if the baby is injured in the isofix chances are they would be dead in the ADR approved one (depending on the type of accident).

There is a report (I linked to in one of my other posts on isofix) about the ADR committee considering isofix and they do acknowledge that it's better and safer but decided to hold off on allowing isofix until the next review of the ADR which is in about 3 years time when they will consider if they will allow isofix to be considered for testing (in other words nothing will happen for a long time).

It's something you have to toss up, personally I'd go isofix and am even looking at ways to retrofit isofix to my wifes car (available on overseas models but not in Australia) by importing the isofix mounts and getting them fitted to the car. Chances are it will not get picked up on unless you get stopped by the police for an inspection or you have an accident.

The angle is a bit odd yes, luckily my capsule can adjust for angle to suit so I didn't have a problem. If yours doesn't then you can just pack it, its just there to stop movement. After you install it get the Red Cross to have a look at it- they offer a free inspection to check it for safety. For a small fee they can even install it for you.

yeah have a kidsafe office that i spoke to yesterday, i had it in right but had the top teather over tight. Will get them to check it but i think i will get some high density foam to make it a bit tighter.

and if this capsule didn't fit in the pram it wouldn't have gotten a start, the next seat will be a recaro isofix
